CSU Students Apply To Become WCSB DJs

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

WCSB is always looking for new and talented DJs to carry on the tradition of providing northeast Ohio with the finest in alternative entertainment and information. We have been broadcasting at 89.3 FM, from the campus of CSU since 1976!

Could you be one of our DJs?

  1. Are you registered for classes at CSU?
  2. Do you LOVE music? (music snobbery optional)
  3. Can you bring something to WCSB that is not represented on commercial radio?
  4. Can you add something unique to the programming that we already have?
  5. Do you know what WCSB is all about? Do you listen to WCSB or other noncommercial radio stations?
  6. Can you follow some basic (but VERY important) rules, and dedicate several hours a year to the station and events we hold?

You don’t have to have any prior experience. However, we are not a broadcasting school. We are here to provide a voice to music and culture that is neglected by the mainstream media.

If you are interested, stop by Student Life in MC 106, and pick up an application.

Radiothon 2008

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

On the afternoon of Sunday November 9th at 12:00pm, WCSB will begin its 25th annual Radiothon. This weeklong fundraising event is WCSB’s only source of expendable revenue. The Radiothon event happens only once a year, and is the only time of the year that WCSB asks for your support. As you may have heard on our recent broadcasts, WCSB has finally moved to our new studio in the Cole Center for Continuing Education. Our new studio has been completely remodeled to fit our needs. We have purchased all new shelving for our music library, new furniture for the offices, new cabinetry for the main air and production room boards, and many other items. This year’s Radiothon is earmarked towards paying off these moving expenses and to increase our budget for future, unanticipated moving expenses. WCSB also needs your support to make necessary equipment upgrades and supply purchases as needed. We appreciate your support, and hope you will support us again this year.

As in past years, WCSB has a couple of items to note for this year’s Radiothon, they include:

  • First Radiothon held at our new location in the Cole Center, near East 30th and Chester
  • WCSB will offer another limited shirt premium based on the winner of the 2008 design contest
  • Expanded selection of gift certificate premiums from most of the concert venues we work with
  • First Open House at our new location. Come see it while it’s still clean!

Once again, we hope you will take the time during the week of November 9th through November 16th, to pledge your support during your favorite WCSB program(s). Information on how to donate can be found here. WCSB would like to encourage Radiothon donors to stop up to the radio station during the Open House (Friday Nov. 21 @ 3-8 and Sun. Nov. 23 @ 12-4) event. This is especially beneficial in regards to premiums. By coming to the Open House to pick up your premium, you save WCSB money on postage costs. If you have any questions about WCSB’s Radiothon, pledges or premiums, you may call the WCSB Development Office anytime at (216) 687-3591 or check out our Radiothon section or the WCSB Forum. Thank you for your continued support of non-commercial radio and WCSB.

Last/First Broadcast

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

On May 10th, 1976, we held our first broadcast via FM signal from room 956 of Rhodes Tower. A simple ceremony was conducted. The former General Manager of WCSU, Cleveland State’s original campus only radio station, put the needle on an LP of the Beatles “Yellow Submarine”. The chosen song was an instrumental – “Pepperland” , thus beginning our illustrious tenor. Since then, that same location has been the point of origination for everything that has aired on 89.3 fm. Until now.At approximately 5:00pm on October 16, 2008 we will flip the switch. Tune in to the very FIRST broadcast from our new station and the preceding LAST broadcast from Rhodes Tower.
