Programmed College Radio

You know you want to talk about it. Here's a link for those that didn't see the PD article about JCU being "programmed".

JCU has some good shows. It's too bad they're going this direction.

Choice quotes:
"Having a basic playlist from which to pick CDs will allow new hosts to focus on other aspects of running their shows..."

"the eclectic format is really old-fashioned"

Gah! "THE ECLECTIC FORMAT IS REALLY OLD-FASHIONED"??!!!! That's like saying "freedom of choice" is really old-fashioned! But then again, this is the Golden Age Of Bare Feet And Blue Jeans, right? Everybody is supposed to act alike, look alike, and think alike! Like Hell! Trouble is, too many people are so "politically correct" (i.e., passive-aggressive/anal retentive) that they don't want to deal; thus they gladly allow anyone to just spoon-feed them their opinions and values. To paraphase an oft-quoted line by Chas Smith and Lonesome Cowboy Dave: NOBODY THINKS, NOBODY MOVES -- NOBODY GETS HURT! Yeeessshhhh!!!!!

PB Mike has the most valid point I've heard yet. As a caller once mentioned to me, they'll eventually just put commercials on satellite WHILE we still pay, so it'll be nothing more than cable tv--a scam--unless it's only a fad. Terrestial radio needs salvation.

Old fashioned? Radio itself is old fashioned. The only way to keep it relevant is to make the programming itself for innovative and special. What a crock!
