STP's "Core" remains one of the best rock albums, as well as "Facelift" by AIC. However, both bands went mostly down from there. Cobain should have blown his fucking head off sooner. Nobody enjoys whiners. Life sucks. Deal with it. Or blow your fucking head off.

Besides AIC, there are only 4 acts or artists w/ Seattle roots that are noteworthy: Nikki Sixx, Queensryche, Soungarden, and Heart. Note: the last 2 lost all relevance after about 3 albums a piece, while the first 2 put out better music in their later years as well.

All the others you named, my good sir? Sucked. Always have. Let's go back further...Sonic Youth? Sucked donkey. The whole "I have to mumble because I can't sing and write crappy lyrics" motif just doesn't work well. A 5 year old can do as good with Playskool guitars (like Meatwad from ATHF)

I realize I am making more enemies now. I can still listen to Air Supply and enjoy the melodies, the lyrical content, etc. Mudhoney never had one redeeming quality. Jane's Addiction had maybe 3 good songs (if that) and a funny video. Lollapalooza was gasping so bad, they had to get Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube to perform--the only decent artists ever to grace those stages.

Now if only Ozzy had done a Cobain about a dozen years ago....

I thought that the '90s were awesome for music, and I still like Pearl Jam. (Nirvana is waaaay better, though.)

But I agree about Temple of the Dog. I had that album, and the only good song on it was the single, "Hunger Strike". Everything else on it was quite shitty. That CD ended up going to a used record store.

I did like STP, embarrassingly enough, but I got rid of their stuff a long time ago, too.

I had AIC's Jar of Flies, too, but I didn't get into that at all. I think I would have liked the album that had "Rooster" on it better. That's probably the only good album they did.

Quote
The Smoking Loon
Temple of the Dog had some of the worst of the worst--the 90's sucked for rock music, save STP, Tool, and AIC. The "Seattle Scene" always sucked. Including Nirvana. The only group worse then that was Pearl Jam. Eddie Vedder is the only piece of Shit that can compare to Bono (see South Park).

First let me say that musically, I "lived" in Seattle for quite a few years...I was and still am a huge fan of Mudhoney, nirvana, early Soundgarden, some Tad, and even a few screaming trees albums. as for pearl jam, I have seen them twice, once when they were the special guest opening for smashing pumpkins - supporting Gish - and the redhot chili peppers. Pearl Jam had just released their first single, Alive - which, even at 19, underwhelmed me, PJ were entertaining however. I saw them at Lollapalooza 2, headlined by Soundgarden and Ministry. They weren't bad. Perry Farrel sat behind the drummer rocking to their set. At the time, I thought that was quite an endorsement. Whatever. Soundgarden was pretty cool, especially the louder than love stuff. Mudhoney, especially Superfuzz Bigmuff and S/T LPs remain great records that I can still listen to...which is more than I can say for Jane's Addiction. Nirvana -- From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah and Incesticide remain periodic rockdown material. Nirvana's split single with the Jesus Lizard (Best Live Band Ever) may be their best song, "Oh The Guilt"

So, Mr. Loon, it is a questionable practice to write off an entire scene, sound, era, or musical movement. Musical tastes change over time. Music that you may have been the soundtrack to your personal revolution may grow tired and thin over time. Other bands emerge as cool - sometimes even after you wrote them off years earlier.

Personally, from the Seattle sound, AIC sucked pretty bad. STP are from San Diego. I saw them open for Butthole. They were Zeppelin posers who seemed more interested in rock poses than actual rock n roll. Pearl Jam was selected by Neil Young to be his backing band --- my least hated albums of their discography. Anyway...You could do a lot worse than Nirvana and Pearl Jam.

Sheeez.

Destroy all 90's music! That was my era! What the hell will I do with my flannel shirts and ripped jeans? C'mon...What about Air Supply or John Denver?

I would definitely like to see a video of Pat Metheny assaulting Kenny G. Perhaps the world of jazz (and vaguely jazz-ish music) would be enhanced by some good old-fashioned "beef." The writer (and trombonist, played with Miles, notably) Michael Zwerin has an amusing chapter on Kenny G in his book "The Parisian Jazz Chronicles" (downtown CPL has it in their collection:

I always wondered if this event was more urban legend then fact.

It happpened. Lollapalooza '95. I was there. It was before I was a station member. Before I even lived in the Cleveland area, in fact...

I didn't actually see it with my own eyes because we only had tickets for the lawn and couldn't go anywhere near the actual stage. But I heard the commentary about it from the stage. And then Sonic Youth played right after Hole, and Kim said something like "We're not going to take off our clothes or anything. You've seen enough."

That reminds me... Pavement was there! And I didn't like them. Because I'd only heard "Rattled By the Rush". Being from the outskirts of Appalachia, I hadn't been able to get exposed to any of their really good songs yet. So, I didn't get to appreciate the idea of seeing Pavement when I had the chance. I think my friend and I went exploring other areas of the concert while they were playing. Fuck!

But yeah, I really liked Hole then. But now... not so much.

Anyway, continuing with your joke...

...craaaaanberry sauce to go with her mashed potatoes? Good to see you! Does anyone know why she won't be having any craaaaaaaanberry sauce--Come on, say it with me! Why she won't be having any craaaaaaaaanberry sauce to go with her candied yams? Are there candied yams out in the audience? Okay, nice to see you, too. Does anyone know why disgraced vocalist Courtney Love...

Speaking of Hole... Were any station members present when Courtney Love got her clothes ripped off when she went crowd surfing in Cleveland? Ms. Love then supposedly said that she would never play Cleveland again. No big loss in my opinion. The last thing we need is for the fallen widow Cobain to inflate the Heroin prices as soon as she sets foot in this city. Cleveland heroin for Cleveland junkies!!!

I always wondered if this event was more urban legend then fact. I've never cared enough about the widow Cobain to see if it really happened.

Oh I almost forgot...Why won't Courtney Love be having any cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving this year? Fallen rock goddess Courtney love, former singer in the band Hole won't be having any craaaanberrrrryyyyy sauce with her Thanksgiving diner. Why won't Courtney Love, the widow Cobain be having any....

I go to Salvation Armies a lot and they play the Fish and I always have to listen to him giving advice that any schmuck could go read off of the internet... but he acts like he made it up and is all smug about it, but I heard in real life he is a wife beater or some such thing.

Hungry like a wolf was a good song (In my opinion). To take this even further and so my lovely lady does not have to be the only one to embarrass them selves liking “crappy” bands … I like the “Hungry Like a wolf” acoustic cover version that the band Hole had in one of their imports…. Which by the way I use to own back in middle school cause I use to think they were bad asses. Which gives me an Idea for a new topic…
See you there!
