Irish bands that rock- (not Bono)

Hey, I'll be on-the-air for 2 hours on St. Patty's night. I'm hoping to play some cool Irish bands. I have the Undertones all lined up, but who else? I won't play traditional Irish Folk. I'm doing throat culture cafe, 7 to 9. I hope lotsa of drunk weirdos call in.

this is an old post, but i finally just read it..sorry.

Bloodstains Across Northern Ireland
1998
Black vinyl with white labels.

With more of a pop/mod taste in the punk, this volume in the Bloodstains series is a definite stand-out. This, along with Bloodstains Across N. Ireland 2 are the only records in the series to not have red ink on the covers.

Side One
Rudi-Time to Be Proud
Ruefrex-The Perfect Crime
Midnite Cruiser-Rich Bitch
Electro-Motive Force-Conscious, Wanted
Ex-Producers-The System is Here
Androids-Bondage in Belfast
Side Two
Detonators-Cruisin'
Ex-Producers-Behind the Door
Pretty Boy Floyd & The Gems-Sharon
Doubt-Fingers, Lookaway
Defects-Guilty Conscience
Xdreamysts-The Heat is On
Protex-I Wonder Why
Victim-The Teen Age

Bloodstains Across Northern Ireland, Volume 2
November 1998
Black vinyl with white labels. 100 copies on green vinyl

Not really for those of you who need more of a bite to your punk, this record has more of a pop/mod flavor than most of the other records in the Bloodstains series. This, along with Bloodstains Across N. Ireland are the only records in the series to not have red ink on the covers. Some of the bands featured on BANIRE make appreances on this volume. The information included about the bands and songs is fairly thorough.

Side One
Protex-All I Wanna Do (Is Rock 'n' Roll)
Zipps-Don't Tell the Detectives
Tinopeners-Set Me Free
Rudi-The Pressure's On (live from TV)
Shock Treatment-Big Check Shirts
Stage B-Numbers (demo)
Electro-Motive Forces-Mental Cases
The Doubt-Contrast Disorder
Side Two
Detonators-Light At Your Window
Tearjerkers-I'm So Sorry (Demo)
Dogmatic Element-Just Friends
Control Zone-Johnny Johnny
Family Of Noise-Young Rebel
Victim-I Need You
P45-Teenage Love Song
Peasants-I Can Help

Microdisney, "Singer's Hampstead Home"

Cathal Coughlan, Microdisney's singer, went on to form Fatima Mansions:

Sean O'Hagan, their guitarist, founded The High Llamas:

O"Hagan sometimes plays with Kev Hopper (www.spoombung.co.uk), who used to play in the band Stump:

Gavin Friday, ex-Virgin Prunes, has some good songs, though he's possibly tainted by his association with U2
(he gave them their nicknames):

I like some of David Holmes' stuff, especially the albums "Let's Get Killed" and "Bow Down to the Exit Sign":

And then there's Them:
