R.I.P. Guido

Guido is dead. Guido was a big-mouthed, Italian-American caller and former WCSB DJ. His on-air moniker was "the Hitman". His real name was Antonio DiStefano but after hearing his Italian accent, Big Johnson named him Guido during one of Dricore's shows in 2004. The name stuck. I found him to be a semi-annoying caller but he proved to be an excellent foil (particularly during Scruggscorp Broadcasts) to play off of.

Guido fancied himself a comedian. I never found him to be that funny. Annoying yes, funny no. He did provide good insight in to some topics though- particularly those involving the local mob.

He served in the Italian Navy.

Dricore did an amazing retrospective of Guido's calls to his show this past Wednesday. He did over three hours of music and Guido phone calls. I wasn't sure he deserved all of that until I heard the entire show. It was excellent. Dricore deserves a Marconi award for his work on that show.

I don't know the name of show or time slot(s) he did, but his myspace page revealed that he at least attended CSU between '86 and ' 92. FRom talking to him and his obituary, this would place him after highschool and his 2 years in the Italian armed forces. Love HIM or not, he loved US.

I only heard the last bit (actually, not to justify my tardiness, but better that I WAS late). It was fantastic--showcasing Guido as a comedian, thoughtful man, and well...a "Guido". Go Dricore! Now would the Racist Caller get the same treatment? LOL
