This Sunday 3/27: A very special movie night at Bela Dubby

This Sunday at 8pm at the Bela Dubby in Lakewood, I'm hosting a very special movie night honoring local hero Damon Packard. Take a break from the CIFF and come watch the Akron filmmaker's 2 1/2 hour epic "REFLECTIONS OF EVIL" on the giant projector screen, FOR FREE!!!!! I'll be showing the original, uncut version, complete with all the stolen footage. This is a very rare screening of what is unquestionably the greatest film of the 21st century. I'll begin the night by showing a few of Packard's short films.

"Reflections Of Evil" is Damon Packard's masterpiece, and it is a new kind of cinema. This movie has destroyed many friendships for me, but those who can't handle this are not worthy. I first saw "Reflections Of Evil" in 2008. Krauty McDrugz came over to my parent's house and we tripped in the basement and watched the whole thing. My brain was permanently rewired. You will be tripping on PCP just by viewing the film. Here's a clip.

So bring the family, dip into the popcorn bucket, and have your mind altered forever by Damon Packard. Pay tribute to this local un-legend, who's currently living out of his car somewhere in the mean streets of L.A. The movie beings at 8pm. See ya there, amigos!

Scott, I thought you were going to post "LAST NIGHT!" to keep up with your timeline...

If anyone reading this gets an opportunity to see this movie, I highly recommend it. It's not just insane, it also has heart. I almost cried,
but that's partly because of circumstances unique to me (at least I hope they are). But it's definitely not fun for the whole family, in fact
the only family members of any of the audience last night left in short order. But it's really not so bad once you get past all of the scenes
of people on the ground vomiting, and they are mostly in the beginning of the movie. And no, it doesn't make "Street Trash" look like a
Neil Simon confection, thank goodness.

And Jake owes the audience members remaining at the end of the movie some Christmas lights...

I don't think anything will ever make "Street Trash" look like a Neil Simon confection, but "Reflections of Evil" is definitely the epileptic, schizophrenic cousin of "Street Trash". I haven't seen "Modus Operandi", so I can't compare the two. This is a love/hate film, and is probably the favorite film of a few of the weirdest fragments of society. I saw it thanks to Krauty, who got his copy from Mark Tidrick. I think Mark is responsible for spreading the word about Damon Packard throughout Cleveland. I used to carry a copy in my pocket and show it to hungover college students, tauting it as the cure for the hangover. The antidote will only be handed out for the few special souls who stay for the whole film.

Damon Packard's grandma was the wife of some major union leader from Ohio, and when his grandma died, he received like $200,000 of inheritance money, and spent it all on making "Reflections of Evil". He made absolutely zero profit from it, despite his best efforts at distribution. He left 30,000 burned DVD copies in supermarkets, bus stops, thrift stores and phone booths throughout Los Angeles. The film is shot in 16mm, Super-8 and video. Here's another clip, in case ya'll are still on the fence about going.

Jake, I was watching the clip without sound and I already felt as though I was tripping. Oddly enough, just the other night I heard a woman say that "Reflections of Evil" was her favorite film, though she also liked "Modus Operandi"*...Without having seen it, I'm going to hazard a guess that this will make "Street Trash" ( [en.wikipedia.org] ) look like a Neil Simon confection.

Will you have the antidote to the film available?

*At a gig where I was trying to play some fur-coat jazz, which is jazz meant to be listened to by women wearing fur coats, diamonds, high heels, and nothing else...however, when we were done and I looked around, this was sadly not the case. But I would definitely like to attain that goal, even if it was just for a scene in a movie...
