The first WCSB broadcast from the Cole Center Thurs. 10/16/08

On Thusday October 16th, tune in to hear the last broadcast from the 9th floor room that has 32 years worth of ghosts. Our Rhodes Tower home, which has pretty much been broadcasting 24 hours a day 7 days a week for the last three decades, will go dark.

Then around 5:00pm on 10/16/08, listen to our first broadcast from the Cole Center and the beginning of the next 32 years.

On the 10th of May, 1976, the first song to be played over WCSB's airwaves was "Pepperland" from the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine".

What would you play if you were inaugurating a new station?

(pretty sure all the following is in the music library at the cole center - but maybe it's still packed)

"Mexican Radio" by Wall of Voodoo from Call of the West

"I feel a hot wind on my shoulder
And the touch of a world that is older
I turn the switch and check the number
I leave it on when in bed I slumber
I hear the rhythms of the music
I buy the product and never use it
I hear the talking of the DJ
Can't understand just what does he say?...."

"The True Wheel" by Brian Eno from Taking Tiger Mountain (by strategy)

"...Looking for a certain ratio
Someone must have left it underneath the carpet
Looking up and down the radio
Oh-oh, nothing there this time
Looking for a certain ratio
Someone said they saw it parking in a car-lot
Looking up and down the radio
Oh-oh, nothing there this time
Going back down to the radio
Oh, oh - oh, oh - oh, oh - here we go!..."

"Just This Morning" by The Silos from Cuba

"Just this morning
heard my favorite record on the radio
Just this morning

Just this morning - Side A
Later this morning - Side B
We were driving across the plains
Heard that record and it made my day
Down around Illinois
Thank you DJ
For playing my favorite record on the radiooooo....."

or, since the first show will be a metal show - any of the good, epic, Ozzy-era Black Sabbath!!!
like Am I Going Insane or stuff off Paranoid - Iron Man/Paranoid/War Pigs/Electric Funeral

maybe if there's a crowd, we could all sing the instrument parts and lyrics to Iron Man. that would be pretty funny.

Earlier, it was stated that the first song played was "Flying" by The Beatles, so I was also going to suggest "Flying" by The Residents...I guess it's a moot point. And since it looks like the transition is going to happen after "The Royola Rock and Rollola Thursday Showola," and with the beginning of "This Is Metal," it's probably going to be a metal song. Maybe you
