grocery store songs

have you noticed that certain songs remind you of grocery shopping because they get played so much in supermarkets?

it happened to me this morning when i heard this song by Rod Stewart (can't remember the name) that goes "bring over some of your old motown records..."

that is a definite example. another one is "walking on broken glass" by Annie Lennox.

I was just wondering if anyone else had these feelings. and if so, for what songs?

That k.d. Lang song "Constant Craving" reminds me of trips to Finast with my mom for groceries.

This morning, TLPJ played the Raincoats' song
"Fairytale in the Supermarket" (title?), which is
one of my favorite Velvet Underground pastiches.
Howard Devoto: "I been waiting in the supermarket
Standing in line with the beans (Cash up)
I been waiting at the Post Office
For sticky pictures of the Queen (Stick up)"
"I just physically hate waiting. I'm very undisciplined in that way. I wrote the first line at Safeways when I wanted to buy just one item and I had to wait ages to pay for it at the cash register. It wasn't beans, actually it was bananas." from "Sniffin' Glue," March 1977.

I heard New Order's "Bizzare Love Triangle" and The Jam's "A Town Called Malice" on my most recent trip to Giant Eagle in Lakewood. I thought that was pretty cool.

Maybe we should sell food out of Ole' 956? I can handle the meat dept.--I know how to cut steaks and shit by hand, as well as a good deal of seafood, since I was a chef. Also, my pops was a butcher for 15 years and taught me some.

HEY...we got veggie people here at the station who are Cow friendly they do not need to know about my slaughtering days....I mostly killed lambs and goats cause they were smaller it was close to the end of my days at the monastery where they allowed me to kill cows. We killed them right though not how they do here. The thing that I hatted and I was really bad at was skinning. To this day I never really grasped the technical skill that they were trying to teach me. I still had to use a stool though and had to be supervise cause the cows were a lot taller and bigger than I.

True Story.

At Giant Eagle last night they played a Ramones song. I then realized I had a Ramones shirt on and I thought the situation was pretty awesome.

DON'T BE "THAT GUY"
Re: grocery store songs

Ahhh, slaughtering goats and cows! The thought of all that blood is so thirst-inspiring! Nonetheless, let me remind you of yet another appropriate song: "Abominable Snowman In The Market", by Johnathan Richman and the Modern Lovers. And you know, Lancelot Link and the Evolution Revolution did a store song, but I think it was about a department store, actually. And let's not forget "The Tortoise Brand Pot Cleaner Song", by Shonen Knife -- which comes in both 'Sea Turtle' and 'Green Tortoise' versions. On a slightly different angle there is, of course, Tom 'T-Bone' Stankis' "Working At The K-Mart Blues"; it's not quite a grocery-store song, but it's close.

HARK TO THE BRILLIANCE IN THE DARK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what about songs that are about going to the supermarket but do not get played there?

"I'm all lost in the super market...."

1. supermarket fantasy- screeching weasel
2. fairytale in the supermarket- the raincoats
3. yeah, that clash song is one of them.
4. isn't there a song by the jam that talks about supermarkets?

Sometimes I sit around and try and think of how many songs there are about supermarkets. I can't remember anymore of them now. I think I have only gotten to about 8 or 9.

I work at a grocery store and when I worked for Tops sometimes I'd hear the same song 3 times a day it was horrible.....and they almost ruined 500 miles by the proclaimers because I heard it there so much I began associating it with work.

To never have suffer would be to never have been blessed.

my first job was at tops, and i loved the crappy music they played. lots of rod stewart and taylor dayne. the most creepy thing was when i had to be there at 5AM sunday morning, the vegetables would be getting cleaned by those jet streams and somehow they had it rigged up to play "singin' in the rain". eek.
the coolest thing was that they played the Monkees xmas song.

Today I was in Giant Eagle and they were playing a weird cover of that Clash song.

I'm subjected to Louie Prima and Sinatra 20x a day. Arrrggghhh!!! I like "Sex Mart 2000" by The Meatmen, although it's about a pornshop, not a grocery store. Paging Rotty....BTW, The proclaimers have always sucked, Scottish or not.
