David Badagnani is an ethnomusicologist and musician based in Kent where he is an adjunct professor and doctoral candidate at Kent State University. He specializes in a variety of wind, string, and percussion instruments from around the world (primarily East and Southeast Asia), as well as new and improvised music for english horn and oboe. David is a founding member of the avant-garde group Pointless Orchestra, and performs with Irish, Australian, Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese, and American traditional ensembles. He's also performed with Phong Nguyen, Jin Hi Kim, Joseph Celli, Richard Teitelbaum, George Lewis, Wadada Leo Smith, Halim El-Dabh, and Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble. David's doctoral research involves the cataloging and archiving of the complete works of the Egyptian-American composer Halim El-Dabh. His other musical research has focused primarily on intercultural musical collaboration and global rap music, and his articles have been published in
The Continuum Encyclopedia of Popular Music of the World.
The radio program will feature music from around the world and will be an exploration of cross-cultural musical performance.
