Recycled Rainbow: Armageddon: Sept. 28th - 30th
August 27, 2007 11:30AM

For more info contact everyman, info@recycledrainbow.org

On September 28th – 30th, Recycled Rainbow, a temporary autonomous zone, will emerge at the Hide-A-Way campground in Leavittsburg, Ohio. Theme camps, art installations, and unrestricted creativity are among the many things you will experience; but this is a no spectator event, so you will find only as much as you are willing to contribute.

It's not about what you get, but what you give.

Recycled Rainbow has 10 simple rules to follow: Radical Inclusion, Gifting,
Decommodification, Radical Self-reliance, Radical Self-expression, Communal Effort, Civic Responsibility, Leaving No Trace, Participation, and Immediacy.
Other than firewood and ice, there will be no vending permitted. If you have something to give, gift it out. If you have something you need, bring it in!

Pack everything you'll need for the weekend, take it out when you go, and leave no trace!

There will be no dumpsters or trash cans or trips to the convenience store. Electricity and water are available in the main 'Downtown' campsite, and primitive camping is available in the adjacent “Invisible City”.

Prepare for rain!

Prepare for anything, so you can do anything.

Recycled Rainbow is an inclusive community project of which you are an integral part.

You are radically responsible, but you are radically free! How will you contribute?

Each event has its own distinct theme. In lieu of our push for radical self-reliance, this year's will be Armageddon. Participants are encouraged to employ this theme in their artworks, costumes, and camps.

Tickets are available on-line through recycledrainbow.orgrecycledrainbow.org, or in person from a Recycled Rainbow organizer, or at the gate (prices increase on Saturday.)

For further information on purchasing tickets, directions, and a guide for first-time campers, visit the Recycled Rainbow website at recycledrainbow.org, and feel free to befriend us at myspace.com/recycledrainbow

To clarify the press release, the electricity that the camp site has available has already been spoken for. First came, first served.

That means if you need power, bring a generator, or use an inverter with your car battery, or use an inverter with some fully charged deep cycle batteries. It's not hard. It's not that expensive, especially if you're coming with a group of people all pitching in (which we highly encourage.)

You can recharge the batteries during the day for night use. Power is available near the permanent resident camping, and using it for this purpose is fine... but no one is permitted to camp near them.

Just didn't want anyone to t count on electricity being available unless you bring your own.

Think of it like a far less crowded Burning Man Festival with a more agreeable climate.

Have questions? I don't check this forum too often, so please email:

Wednesday, Sept. 19th, is the very last day online tickets will be made available.

That's tomorrow!

Going forward, they are for sale at the Literary Cafe in Tremont.

There are a couple places in Akron/Kent that will be selling them, but that isn't solid yet. Will give more info as I get it, but in case I forget... please keep checking [www.recycledrainbow.org]

Craig, feel free to play the college radio spot from that website. It doesn't mention price or location, so you'the clear.

In the meantime, pick up a copy of this week's Lakewood Observer (they just did a print-up of our press release.)

The DJ's on this board are encouraged to play the Recycled Rainbow promo (which makes no mention of price or location, just the website)

Thank you to those who have already done so!

I know 10 day forecasts don't mean anything in Ohio, but so far for RR weekend it's anticipated to be sunny and warm (not hot) during the days, and about 50 late at night.

We have spent a night and two days on the grounds and have some interesting things to report that will help make your experience a very enjoyable one.

First-off let me say that THIS IS GOING TO ROCK. The space is gigantic, the neighbors are awesome and the energy is AMAZING. Now for the problems we experienced and how you can avoid them....

The temperature at night drops down into the low 50s. Along with this, there is a huge amount of moisture in the air from the large swimming hole located right next to downtown and the creek that runs on the other side of the camping area. Because of this, at night, you will experience cold and wet without any rain.

During the day, it is hot and humid. BRING TWO SETS OF CLOTHES. One for the daytime and one for the nighttime. We recommend two pullover sweatshirts- one for friday night and one for saturday night. YOU WILL NOT WANT TO WEAR SHORTS AT NIGHT. But you may during the day. Bring something you can wear your costume over- or make your costume warm enough if you're wearing it at night!

It's very important to keep yourself visible after sunset. There will be people riding bikes on the property, so be sure to illuminate yourself, or at least carry a small LED flashlight with you.

If you choose not to wear any glowing or reflective material, you might slam into someone by the time you notice they're in front of you!

If anyone wants glow sticks or necklaces, try Rite Aid or Walmart in the Halloween stuff.

A canister of 50 bracelets with connectors for $5.00!!!

Because of the enormous amount of dew that forms at night, your feet will get extremely wet at night. We reccommend a pair of waterproof shoes or a few pairs of shoes- one for friday and friday night and then one for saturday while your friday night pair dry off. BRING LOTS OF DRY SOCKS and seal them in garbage bags. SEAL ALL YOUR CLOTHES IN GARBAGE BAGS.

The dewey mist from all the water around us gets everywhere. EVERYWHERE. It's a good idea to bring your clothes in garbage bags and tie them off. This will keep them nice and dry if you want to grab a sweater at night or change into your blue prom dress at midnight.

Because of the incessant mist, your gear will get doused in water very quickly right before the sun goes down. There are several ways to deal with this. Note that heat evaporates dew. You can cover some items (like the knobs and faders on a mixer) with a garbage bag as long as the equipment can breathe. DONT BRING YOUR BEST GEAR.

Drive extremely slow once you enter the campground. The greeters will help you find your way and give you any important information. Others will be able to help you find your camp.

There are fire rings available if you want to have a fire in your camp. because it will be very dark downtown we will be moving the fire rings out of the way of people walking so they dont bash their shins on the large truck rims. ONLY REQUEST A FIRE-RING IF YOU WILL USE IT. Spotters will direct you to your camps fire-ring and show you where it belongs in your campground.

Sunday the Mennonites and Amish in Trumbull County are returning from prayer. When many of us return home from RR, 534 will be crowded with horse-drawn buggies. Pass them with care.
