The first WCSB broadcast from the Cole Center Thurs. 10/16/08

The first WCSB broadcast from the Cole Center Thurs. 10/16/08
October 14, 2008 12:12AM
On Thusday October 16th, tune in to hear the last broadcast from the 9th floor room that has 32 years worth of ghosts. Our Rhodes Tower home, which has pretty much been broadcasting 24 hours a day 7 days a week for the last three decades, will go dark.

Then around 5:00pm on 10/16/08, listen to our first broadcast from the Cole Center and the beginning of the next 32 years.

On the 10th of May, 1976, the first song to be played over WCSB's airwaves was "Pepperland" from the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine".

What would you play if you were inaugurating a new station?

"Station to Station" by Dave Bowie. Or "Splatterty Splat" by the electric eels which has the lyric
"Station to station, I've gone on vacation..."

Earlier, it was stated that the first song played was "Flying" by The Beatles, so I was also going to suggest "Flying" by The Residents...I guess it's a moot point. And since it looks like the transition is going to happen after "The Royola Rock and Rollola Thursday Showola," and with the beginning of "This Is Metal," it's probably going to be a metal song. Maybe you
should play a quick one, like:

Pere Ubu - Street Waves

I ride a street wave right by her side
and I can hear the city city comin' round
The things I say hit the air and seem to fall apart
and I can see the faces faces fallin' down
And then I'm
gone
gone
gone by her heart
I get a picture of what it'll be like
I turn the channel round to Channel 43
I see electricity jump and spark
I see electricity uh real and stark
And then I'm
gone
gone
gone by her heart
I ride a street wave right by her side
and I can hear the city city comin' round
The things I say hit the air and seem to fall apart
and I can see the faces faces fallin' down
And then I'm
gone
gone
gone by her heart
And then I'm
gone
gone
gone by her heart

(pretty sure all the following is in the music library at the cole center - but maybe it's still packed)

"Mexican Radio" by Wall of Voodoo from Call of the West

"I feel a hot wind on my shoulder
And the touch of a world that is older
I turn the switch and check the number
I leave it on when in bed I slumber
I hear the rhythms of the music
I buy the product and never use it
I hear the talking of the DJ
Can't understand just what does he say?...."

"The True Wheel" by Brian Eno from Taking Tiger Mountain (by strategy)

"...Looking for a certain ratio
Someone must have left it underneath the carpet
Looking up and down the radio
Oh-oh, nothing there this time
Looking for a certain ratio
Someone said they saw it parking in a car-lot
Looking up and down the radio
Oh-oh, nothing there this time
Going back down to the radio
Oh, oh - oh, oh - oh, oh - here we go!..."

"Just This Morning" by The Silos from Cuba

"Just this morning
heard my favorite record on the radio
Just this morning
heard my favorite record on the radio

Just this morning - Side A
Later this morning - Side B

We were driving across the plains
Heard that record and it made my day
Down around Illinois
Thank you DJ
For playing my favorite record on the radiooooo....."

or, since the first show will be a metal show - any of the good, epic, Ozzy-era Black Sabbath!!!
like Am I Going Insane or stuff off Paranoid - Iron Man/Paranoid/War Pigs/Electric Funeral

maybe if there's a crowd, we could all sing the instrument parts and lyrics to Iron Man. that would be pretty funny.

how about that song by david bowie:

CHA CHA CHA CHA CHANGES

i personally dont think that this new location is as 'historical' in the sense that the first song played at the new station is of that much importance....its not like MTV playing 'video killed the radio star' or anything..

so, yeah- my vote is for " YOUR SO METAAAAAAAL. im storming the castle- I have my sword- AND IT IS METAAAAL"

actually

i thought about it ...and i think that the LAST Song we play at rhodes tower would actually be more important than the first song at the cole center....

agreed...i think the last thing played should be Brak's "Goodbye Everybody" bit.

The first song was one round of the song "Brainwash" by the band Flipper.
