Streaming WCSB to an iPhone or iPod Touch

Tonight I tried out two apps for my iPod Touch to stream WCSB.

I only used wi-fi, not having an iPhone, so any reports from the field would be appreciated.

Based on cost and assorted user ratings, I tried out:

CastCatcher: two bucks
RadioBOX: a buck

CastCatcher had a pretty obvious user interface; I had no trouble figuring out how to add WCSB's stream (wcsb.org:8001/listen.pls). One of the pluses to CastCatcher is you can go into System Preferences and increase the buffer size, which reviewers say helps with dropouts. I listened for about twenty minutes with no problems. Mind you, I was sitting next to my wifi router the whole time.

RadioBOX, however, really made me work hard to figure out how to add WCSB's stream. Once I did it wouldn't let me play it, until I figured out I had to OK it twice. But with all that done, it then streamed WCSB just fine. I listened for about five minutes with no dropouts.

There are a handful of other apps out there; most of them cost more. The free Shoutcast AOL app won't let you add any other streams (fascists. I hate lock in).

Awesome. I've been looking for something like these off and on for a while now.
