Felipe mentioned that WGAR in another topic. Decades ago, when WGAR was, I think, a top 40 station, it had at least 3 memorable DJs: John Lanigan, Fig Newton (I swear that was his name) and also, Phil Gardner. Lanigan might still be working in Cleveland media; he used to host the daily B movie afternoon show on WUAB, as did Fig Newton. I don't ever recall seeing Phil Gardner, but I remember him being quite funny; his radio ID included a statement that he won some American radio comedy award (or something like that). I think he left WGAR in the late 1970s. Does anyone know what happened to him?

When I was a teen, I delivered for the Sun Newspapers. I had a house on my route that had taken one of those popular WGAR bumper stickers and cut out the letters. When reposted on their car, it spelled GWAR. Yes, they were biker metalheads. I liked those people.

The first and only time I heard Kraftwerk's "Autobahn" on a top 40 station was on WGAR in the mid-1970s.

Autobahn was the name of the nihilist group in "The Big Lebowski". It featured Flea. Lanigan is still on WMJI (I think--I don't listen), as he has been for 25 years or more. He usually has a stache.

Han's Liberscwhanz was conceived in the back of his parents VW Microbus. They were heading to a Kraftwerk concert in Hamburg. Autobahn was the song that was playing as Hans was conceived.

You know it's funny... I associate the B movie afternoon show with peanut butter.

I did not live in the U.S. when that show was around but I use to visit my dad once or every two years here in Cleveland. He would leave me home alone and I would watch afternoon TV all day waiting for the kids 43 cartoon block. That b movie show use to come on right before the cartoons so I would watch it everyday.

The peanut butter comes from my dad having nothing to snack on at his house. Desperate for something to eat I found honey, eggs, and some grape nuts cereal one day and cooked it all together. Needless to say it was disgusting but my dad found out about my little concoction and after getting yelled at, he bought me some peanut butter and Jelly to make sandwiches.

This was the first time I ever had peanut butter and I loved it. I was seriously acting like Death in "Meet Joe Black". Peanut Butter? What is Peanut butter?

The first day alone with the peanut butter I was watching the B movie afternoon show. They were showing "Flint" (this one was the one about women getting brainwashed through hair dryer domes at the salon to take over the world) I ate the whole Jar while watching the movie.

My dad was pissed so he told me I was only allowed to have two peanut butter sandwiches: One for lunch and one for snack. So I had a sandwich right at the beginning of the B movie show and one at the end.

"Peanut butter, Lanigan, and B movies!" That will be the title of my autobiography.

Didn't that show also featured a quiz game show between breaks?

The Prize Movie with John Lanigan would show a craptacular B movie and at every break he would play a game by showing very short obscure clips from movies that were even more obscure. Lanigan would pull a postcard out of a tumbler from a lucky viewer and he would spin a wheel of old B movie actors that you had to name. They had some dollar amount that was not very much that the viewer would win if they correctly guessed the 'prize' movie. I never saw anyone get the movie title right. The prize movie makes me nostalgic for staying home on sick days from school and eating peanut butter right outta of the jar by the spoonful. Here is a clip: [www.youtube.com] Check out Lanigan's 70's stache and the grand prize dollar amount of $420.43

Funny - Sassy Wins

Retarded - retard (mongolico) was my grade school nickname which means I was child prodigy on the subject matter. So I win on this category.

Kudos to the military (and let's not forget Al Gore) for the internet indeed! It certainly is a wonderful system of tubes. Now I'm off to find myself some midget-tranny-bestiality porn. Life is good.

I think I read DARPA created what became the internet to 'harden' command, control, communications and intelligence (C3I) during wartime (so nuclear war would not interrupt their email).
