WCSB is thrilled to premiere CommUnity Waves, a public affairs radio program focused on community health, education and activism hosted by Helen Schneider. CommUnity Waves will air every Friday from 12-12:30pm beginning today, April 26.
The inaugural episode will focus on the Green Book Cleveland project—a partnership between local institutions and community voices to document and preserve the rich history of Black leisure and entertainment in Northeast Ohio from 1938-1967. This collaboration not only sheds light on an often overlooked aspect of African American history but also sets a foundational understanding of the persistent challenges within community health and compassionate communities today.
Appearing on CommUnity Waves today are Mark Souther and Bali White.
Mark Souther, PhD is a Professor and the Director at the Center for Public History + Digital Humanities in the History Department at Cleveland State University. Bali White has been involved in the Green Book Cleveland project since it started in 2021, first as an undergraduate and now as a graduate student.
Helen Schneider is a long-time member of WCSB and is a doctoral student at Kent State University in the College of Education Health and Human Services.
