On Friday, October 4, WCSB will celebrate World College Radio Day 2024 alongside more than 700 stations worldwide. This year’s WCRD theme is “Defenders of Democracy.”
Defending democracy is crucial because it ensures the continuing right to freedom of speech, education, and the ability to influence government decisions that affect lives. Democracy empowers people to shape their future and protects against tyranny and injustice, fostering a society where everyone can pursue their dreams and live freely. College radio has a proud history of standing for democracy, and WCSB hopes to create special programming for this year’s WCRD event that explores the importance of this theme.
What’s the purpose of World College Radio Day?
The aim of College Radio Day is to raise the profile of college radio stations across the world and encourage increased student participation in the medium of college radio. The day is also designed to encourage people who would not normally tune into their local college radio station to do so, and hopefully stay listening because they like what they hear! Above all, the day is a celebration of college radio that reminds people, on and off campus, that college radio is still alive and kicking on many campuses across the country!

Hopefully, that will continue to be true after November 5th.
